Developing Your Operational Managers

Our ILM Level 5 Operational Manager Apprenticeship focuses on developing your managers to better manage and develop their teams as well as prepare them for moving into leadership roles.

This Level 5 ILM Apprenticeship is aligned to the Operational or Departmental Manager apprenticeship standard and will develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours for this role.

Stages & Estimated Timeline

    Stage 1 - Onboarding & Design

    Duration: Avg. 2-3 Months

    To begin with, your candidates will be reviewed by Kendal College to determine their eligibility for the programme and inform them of their responsibilities as an apprentice.

    The duration of the onboarding is entirely dependent on the engagement of your candidates - put simply, the sooner the paperwork is filled in, the sooner the ILM Level 5 Operations Management apprenticeship begins.

    Penguin will then complete a learning needs analysis to tailor the Level 5 ILM course to your specific learning requirements and desired outcomes before beginning design of the workshops and training materials.

    Stage 2 - Delivery of Workshops

    Duration: Avg. 15-18 Months

    Once the onboarding stage is completed, Penguin will begin delivery of the Level 5 ILM workshops - approx. 8-hours of training per month (can be delivered as a single day classroom workshop or multiple virtual workshops)

    Apprentices will also attend monthly check ins with their Kendal Coach to build their Learning Portfolio as evidence of their learning which will need to be submitted and assessed as part of the End-Point Assessment at the end of the programme.

    We stress the importance of learners committing to attending the Level 5 ILM workshops which they will be given plenty of notice for.

    Stage 3 - End-Point Assessment

    Duration: Avg. 2-3 Months

    To successfully complete the ILM Level 5 Operations Management apprenticeship, each apprentice needs to pass an individual End-Point Assessment split into several stages including:

    4 x assignments demonstrating application of the content covered.

    2 x Presentations with Question & Answers

    Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence

    The external assessment body (City & Guilds) will then decide to award successful apprentices with a pass or distinction. Upon receiving their grade, successful apprentices will then be sent their Level 5 ILM certification.

Available Funding

£7,000.00

max Funding available per apprentice

As a levy payer, you can utilise up to £7,000.00 per apprentice from your levy pot to fund their apprenticeship in place of your traditional L&D budget.

£350.00

per head for non-levy payers

If you are a non-levy payer or you run out of funds in your levy pot, the government will co-fund up to 95% of the programme meaning you only need to contribute 5% of the max funding per apprentice.

  • This programme aligns with the Operations or Departmental Manager Level 5 Apprenticeship.

  • The average programme length is 15-18 months plus 2-3 months for the End Point Assessment.

  • This involves apprentices spending a minimum of 6-hours per week applying the tools learned to activities outside of their usual duties but that naturally occur in the workplace, for example; leading team meetings, building their learning portfolio, completing 1-2-1's etc.

    The focus here is application of the content learned to the workplace whilst remaining in the workplace.

  • The apprentice must spend at least 50% of their working hours in England. These hours must be regular, planned and known at the start of the apprenticeship.

  • The entry requirement for this apprenticeship will be decided by each employer.

    From an academic standard, apprentices will require five GCSEs at Grade C or higher including English and Maths.

  • Certification for this apprenticeship is obtained by completing the End Point Assessment which is carried out by an external assessment body (City & Guilds)

  • Upon completing the End Point Assessment, apprentices will be awarded with a pass or distinction by the external assessment body (City & Guilds).

    Upon receiving their grade, successful apprentices will then be sent their ILM Level 5 certification.
